Monthly Newsletter - November 2022
President's Message

Welcome Fall...at least Hurricane Nicole is bringing us some fall weather.  Unfortunately, we have had a very active hurricane season forcing us to cancel the October and November general PTO meetings.  Don't worry though you will find all the important PTO happenings in this newsletter.  If you would like to see us in person please come to the PTO room (located far side of cafeteria) on Monday November 14 at 9:30am to help with the Walk-a-Thon planning.  The Walk-a-Thon is our 2nd major fundraiser of the year and we are getting busy prepping and planning this fun event.  Picking the prizes is on Monday's agenda.  We would love for you to join our team.  There are also other volunteer opportunities located on our PTO membership webpage. Treasurer Report- Tyrenda Reed
PTO Budget

Reminder that our expenses are much higher than our income for this year to balance our budget by clearing excess funds from COVID times.  During COVID our fundraising efforts continued to be successful but the school was not able to go on field trips, have assemblies, and other activities that PTO normally funds we ended up with a higher balance at the end of the year.  Don't worry the teachers are requesting super interesting field trips this year and asking for funds to create amazing projects for their students.  For example, 3rd grade just went to Farmer Mike's, Kindergarten is getting ready to go to the Children's Museum, and 2nd grade just submitted their request to visit the zoo. We love all the creative ways the teachers are using the money from our fundraising efforts.

PTO Expenses

As you can see in the pie chart PTO's biggest expense is academics which is what our main mission and goals for fundraising supports.  We also want to acknowledge our teachers and students for doing a great job and encourage them to keep striving to put their best foot forward so you can see we also focus a good part of our budget on student/teacher recognition.  That would include the amazing PBIS celebrations Ms. Carney organizes along with all the incentives provides.  Our lowest piece is PTO operational costs which is as it should since we are a non profit and all volunteer our time and expertise to create a well functioning Parent Teacher Organization- PTO.

Fundraisers
  • Seahorse Sponsors (business carline banners)
  • Build a Reef (family carline banners, click to donate)
  • Walk-a-Thon

  • Square 1 Art
  • Community Events that give back %

We just finished our Fall Fundraiser and the carline banners are hung. They look amazing and we are happy to announce this year was our highest number of sponsors to date.  Natalie was worried we would run out of fence space. We have 7 Platinum, 28 Gold, 5 silver sponsors raising a total of $44,000.  Our Build a Reef family banners also exceeded our goal raising $11,600.  Thank you to all the families and businesses that support our school.

Fall Family "FunD" Night

The S'more, the merrier was a huge success with over 1000 people in attendance.  It's safe to say everyone had an amazing time and we were able to raise about $2,000 to help SGE families and staff impacted by hurricane Ian. So many thanks needed for all the volunteers and especially our high school volunteers who gave up Friday night football to come help us at SGE.  Tracy Matley and Kaitlan Benedict did an amazing job leading their team to putting on a wonderful event.  If you would like to help these ladies plan the spring event please sign up on the volunteer page.

Community Outreach
Our Community Outreach team has been busier than normal this year with some curve balls thrown by mother nature. Jodi Heinold and Ms. Carney have been teaming up to make sure all the funds raised help our families this year.  This will be Jodi's last year at Sea Gate so we are looking for a new chair person.  Jodi has been such an asset to our school as helping truly is a passion of hers. Our agenda this year is below.
  • Hurricane Ian Relief
  • Thanksgiving dinners---25 dinners
  • Angel tree---info will come out after Thanksgiving Break
  • book drive---2nd semester
Thank you everyone for your support with the hurricane victim gift cards, cash, and physical donations. We were able create 20 comfort baskets for SGE kids who were effect by the hurricane plus all the gift cards have been distributed to the SGE families and staff members in need.  Be on the lookout for future emails on the upcoming drives.
PTO General Meeting

**Please note that we are having an issue with the Parent PTO Holiday Party.  Currently we are looking at Dec 13 for 9am Breakfast/meeting at either SGE Cafeteria or another venue...if you have an idea please reach out to one of us.  Unfortunately we are not going to be able to do the Yacht Club but are looking into another date later in the year.

SGE Goes to Chuck E Cheese

Come and see your SGE friends at Chuck E Cheese on December 2 from 3pm-9pm.  A % of all profits will be donated back to our school. This is Ms. Kirby's favorite event, she can't wait to see you there.

Volunteer Opportunities
Cafeteria Events
We need a chair person to make sure all these events are organized and decorations are put up and put away afterwards.  Please email kellyholmberg@hotmail.com if you can commit to all 3 dates.  We already have the decorations you just need to make sure we don't need to restock. It's a very easy job with little time commitment.
  • Thanksgiving Feast Nov 17
  • Winter Feast Dec 14
  • Friendship Day Feb 14
  • Responsibility: decorate/setup/wipe tables down and straighten decorations between classes, clean up and put away decorations.
  • 1-3 volunteers needed for each time slot
  • Lunch is closed to parents eating with their children so the only way to be there is to volunteer.  Please remember that when you volunteer you are helping all the students not just your own child.  Thank you
